Lyall Bay Surf Life Saving Club
Welcome back everyone to Lyall Bay Surf  Lfe Saving Club for 2012.

Tuesday night this week was one of those superb summer evenings down at the bay; a great surf, sun, no wind and lots of clubbies out there enjoying the waves. I counted 2 boats, 1 canoe and about 40 people out on boards, skis and body surfing from the club. There were plenty of members of the public on the beach enjoying the evening and the entertainment that you all put on with your training and skills in the surf.

From now until the end of the summer is a busy time for the club with major competitions for both seniors and juniors around the country and plenty of lifegaurding and event safety still to do.

There are sqauds and crews training every night now but there is always room for more. if you want to have a go on a ski, board or in a boat or canoe -even if you are a beginner -please contact the coaches/administrator or show up for a session as they are keen to get more club members involved and are very willing to teach you. I believe the Monday night track sessions at Newtown Park are very popular with a mix of young and old doing some sprint training.

Congratulations to the team who won the Central Regionals competition last weekend. You were all a pleasure to take away; no dramas, no trouble and everyone approaches being organised and racing in a professional way. It's not often a group of teenagers are complimented like that but surf life saving is about developing leaders and our cub members certianly step as great members of the community.

Keep an eye out on our new club website, facebook group and also our weekly emails so you know what is happening and don't miss out on anything.

Riversdale Junior Surf Carnival - Sunday 22nd January, 10am

Hopefully all Junior Surf members recieved the email sent out by Helen Dudding, please reply to her saying wether you/your child is attending or not. If you did not recieve the email please let Kelsey (admin) know ASAP.
  • Athletes please arrive by 9.15 and report directly to Helen, to mark off the attendance roll and have their SLSNZ ID number put on their arm.
  • Athletes will need LB beanie, togs, rash tops, wetsuits, LB uniform t-shirt, polyprops, warm clothes, hat - sunscreen them at home before coming to beach.
  • Beanies must stay tied on - from the time they arrive, until they leave, this is very important
  • LB club will have warm-up & orientation with Coaches Darren & Matt
  • Keep Athletes beach food simple - WATER, snacks like white bread jam sandwiches, pasta, fruit, cereal bars, plain vanilla or gingernut biscuits.
  • It is a long trip over there, so give yourselves plenty of time for those unexpected stops... and be prepared for all kinds of weather.
  • Over the years going to Riversdale is a great day out and can be very hot and VERY COLD.
Please also note that if an athlete pulls out of a race midway through they MUST still report to the finishing official.

Oceans 2012 Arrangements

Those going to Ocean Athletes, please email Caroline Sarfati at caroline.sarfati@gmail.com with your accommodation and transport requirements. We have accommodation booked for all the athletes (around 40) plus 20 adults, and two vans.  She needs to know who needs accommodation and transport.  It will be allocated on a first come first served basis. This time we are staying at the Mt Apartments not the back packers where we have stayed for the past few years.

We also need two volunteers to drive the vans - this will mean that these drivers do not pay the transport fee.
